APPIE On Host
Gateway Abstraction & Multi-Processor Control
What is APPIE On Host?
APPIE On Host is a bank-grade payment interoperability layer that sits between merchants/ISVs and multiple backend payment hosts. It preserves legacy merchant contracts externally while handling routing, protocol translation, and safe migration internally.
Unlike a simple API gateway, APPIE On Host understands payment semantics. It classifies transaction types, manages session state, handles idempotency and duplicate suppression, and provides deterministic financial safety controls.
Key benefit: Merchants certify once to APPIE. When you need to change gateways, add processors, or retire legacy hosts, the migration happens entirely within APPIE—merchants never need to re-integrate or re-certify.

Migration Modes
APPIE provides multiple migration modes to safely transition between gateways with varying levels of risk and validation.
Observe-Only
low riskTraffic is observed and classified but not executed through the target host. Used to learn undocumented patterns and unknown message types without any risk.
Best for: Learning phase for new gateway integration
Shadow
low riskOld host remains primary; new host is exercised invisibly for equivalence and latency comparison. Results are compared but not used for actual transactions.
Best for: Validation before any live traffic
Dual-Run
medium riskBoth hosts process the same flow for transaction-level comparison and discrepancy logging. Both results are captured and analyzed.
Best for: Deep validation of new host behavior
Canary
medium riskA controlled percentage of live traffic shifts to the new host while the old host handles the remainder. Carefully monitored for issues.
Best for: Controlled production exposure
Phased
low riskMerchant groups or traffic cohorts move in waves, usually by volume, complexity, or strategic importance.
Best for: Enterprise-scale migration
